Warriors of Chaos – army progress # 9 – Chaos Warshrine and Chaos Chariot

I just could not help myself…. With only two more units to go (to finish my initial army build), I spent the last two days painting them, and the army (with the exception of movement trays) is now - “finished” (se below)!

First out – my Chaos Warshrine. I loved the description of the Warshrine in the old Army Book, hence – I was not particularly thrilled with the fluff behind the new one – ore the model. I therefore decided to go with the plans I had for building the Warshrine in accordance with the fluff in the old book.

Using Chaos Steeds, Chaos Warriors and lots of bits from a Chaos Rhino, I altered a Corpse Chart from the Vampire Counts into my own variant of the Chaos Warshrine. I was stupid enough to assemble the model before painting… Picking out details was a nightmare, however I think I would have had problems separating parts during construction since there are so many parts that are fitted together. Enough said, this is how it turned out:

The last unit in my initial army build is a Chaos Chariot. I do like the Chariot itself, but not the Steeds. They are two small compared to the “wagon”, and also when compared with the Chaos Steeds carrying the Knights. If I ever decide to build another I will use the “standard” Chaos Steeds. To theme the crew with the rest of the army I used helmets etc from the Warrior sprues. I also left out the "large horns" on the Chariot. Anyway, this is how it looks:

Where to go next? Obviously – movement trays. Not too keen on the “Chaos monster-build army”, I think about adding a unit of Skull Crushers in order to give me some flexibility. But then, in June, I will revert to 40K for a project related to my Ultramarines (can be seen on team Storm Bolter, se link below), before I revert to my High Elf army during the summer, so it will (hopefully) be tournament ready this autumn.

Warriors of Chaos – army progress # 8 – Chaos Knights

It has been a productive weekend. In between domestic duties and social events, I managed to finish my unit of 10 Chaos Knights.

I really enjoyed building and painting these models, lots of detail and possibilities. I went for the version with hand weapons, and again I removed the horns on the helmets and leaving out lots of the "spike bits". I also decided to use shields from the Warrior sprues keeping in line with the “more is less” idea that I have tried to implement throughout the army.

Again keeping in line with the colour scheme on the rest of the units, I went fore dark brown-reddish-black steeds, dark armour and dark reed. This is how they turned out.

Two more units to go, and the units in the initial army build will be complete. Hope to finish them during next week.

Warriors of Chaos – army progress # 7 – Chaos Ogres, Daemon Prince and Spawns

Since my last post I have bin able to get in one more game with my beloved High Elves against Inger Helene’s Dark Elves (before the new Army Book came). This time I got it right, but it took a Dragon to do it… More on that later.

I have had yet another 10 productive days/evenings. Again keeping in line with the colours on my Chaos Marauders and Chaos Warriors, I went with pale (sick) skin tones, dark reed and “dark steel armour”.

First out a picture of my unit of Chaos Ogres, 12 models strong (full command). The share size of the weapons, I guess I can field them as armed with Great Weapons (using the models with “steel fist” in the front rank), ore as armed with two hand weapons.

As you guys now, if a "Chaos Champion" kills its opponent in a challenge, he has the possibility to turn into a Daemon prince or – Spawn. The Daemon prince was a very nice model to build and paint. Lots of detail. I went for a design without to many spiky bits and “add on´s”.
A movie that really gets to me is “Silent Hill”. And when I started to design my two Spawn models I wanted to try to mimic the disturbing creatures and "poses" seen in this film.

With only a couple of weeks to my first game with this army, I have already base coated the next unit I will finish. When starting painting this army I swapped to "dual priming" with a twist; black undercoat (spray) followed by a wash of “Burnt umber” and Scorched brown diluted heavy with water (and some EZ flow improver).

Island of blood intro game

This is some photos from a game with the Island of blood box models.
I showed the game to "non gamer friends"

I add two  spawn as Ogre rats to equalize the forces.
Also the griffon is a great eagle.
Armies is approx. 820 p

Deployment  High Elf

Deployment   Skaven
 Skaven goes first.....
 .....and kill some elfs
 High  elf counter
 Skaven runs
Final blow and the cavalry is gone.

A brave charge of the High elf general.
A lot of bad luck from the High elf and the general is gone.
The mage survive a warp flame attack.
Sperman hunt down some rat ogres.
 Swordmasters take their  prey
 The rats are running.
Highe elf prepare for the final attack.

Wind mortar take some last  kills
Game over. After a very bad start the tied turned to victory for the high  elf.

This was fun and a new experience for me to try to teach the game.
I hope the players enjoyed it too. But I think it is way to much to hope for that they become gamers too.
