Beastmen army progress

Beastmen Ungor Herd.

This is a tiny little unit. Those models will be used in the Beastmen special rule for ambusher. So if you feel that something is behind you…..This unit is probably soon charge you in the rear ……

……. or of course this is WHFB. In worst case they will not get it on the table at all....

Warriors of Chaos – army progress #2

Finally the “shipment” of 300 metal skulls arrived, and I where able to finish building the unit of 50 Chaos Marauders. Next up – summer vacation!

After suggestion from Birk, I decided to ad various extra bits to each model in order to create a unified “mob” but “individual models”, mainly cloth, furs and shields. I also built a couple with axe (hand weapon and shield) so I can put them in the front rank using the unit as a “hand weapon and shield” unit. Shields placed on the shoulders, side or rear of the models also gives me the option to “field them” with some extra protection if I decide to do so.

The skulls had to be filed and cut. Being in metal this was a tiresome job, but I hope they will add narrative to my army (seeing them as walking south from the skull and bone covered plains in the north).

When returning from holiday I have to adjust my Dark Eldar and Space Marine army to the new 6th edition 40K rules book (this can be seen at the team Stormbolter Blogg in late august, link below on this blogg), hence I will probably continue the work with the Chaos army late September.

Wishing you all an enjoyable summer!

Skaven – army progress #1

I decided not to “throw myself” at the new 40K 6th edition rulebook, but to read it during my upcoming summer holiday. Waiting for more parts to build my new Warrior of Chaos army, I decided to add a new unit to my Skaven army. What to build?

Well, as people are slowly adapting to my 2 Hell Pit list, I decided to add an elite unit that has a better WS, S and I than my normal rats. The answer – a 40 strong unit of Storm Vermin. Since the Storm Vermin are an “elite unit” within the Skaven hierarchy, I decided not to make their armour and weapons as “rusty” as the rest of my rats, also giving them a unique colour.

Hope to field them in battle soon.

Cheers

WHFB Dark Elves vs Skaven 2500p

As the Dark Elves raid the northern coastline they meet a Skaven army searching for Warp Stone…. On the fields outside an old abandoned farm settlement, the two armies deploy for battle.

The Dark Elves deploy their army to the north. On each flank a Bolt Thrower. To the West, two Chariots, a unit of Cold one Knights and a War Hydra. To the East two units of Harpies. In centre a large unit of Corsairs, flanked by two large units of Cross Bow Warriors, and a unit of Spear armed Warriors with a Supreme Sorceress. Behind the battle line, a Cauldron of Blood.

The Skaven deploy their army to the south. On each flank a Hell Pit. Inwards towards centre, 4 units of Slaves and a unit of Clanrats. In centre, Plague Monks with a Plague Furnace. A Grey Seer hides behind the lines in a Clanrat “bunker”. A Cannon deploys on a hill to the east, and two units of Gutter Runners are held in reserve. Each Slave unit on the flanks are accompanied by a War Lock Engineer.

Let the battle commence…

In the first couple of turns both armies advance. The Skaven “bells” start “ringing” and the "rain" falls so heavy no ware machines may fire unless a test is passed, and all shooting that requires use of BS is a -2 to hit. Several Slaves fall on the advance, but the main targets, the Hell Pits, take little damage. The Skaven Cannon takes out several of the Supreme Sorceress Spear Warriors, but the Doom Rocket fail (again) to do any damage.

The Skaven Army masses towards the centre of the battlefield, partially out-manoeuvring the Dark Elf Knights and Chariots, as they would have to move around a building to the vest of the battle line not to clog their advance. Although the War Hydra kills of dozens of Slaves, it just aren’t able to kill enough Slaves to break the line. More Slaves are fed to the Elf battle line to the east. Oh well – their only Slaves (and life is cheap, especially when it is not your own…). But the Slaves do their job. Behind the “avalanche of flesh” both Hell Pits reach the Dark Elf battle line. To the east killing of Harpies and a War Machine. Gutter Runners enters the battlefield behind the Dark Elf battle line and fire their poison slings assisting in killing archers and war machines.

In centre the Plague Furnace and Plague Monks manages to charge the Corsair (who had failed their charge the previous turn - bad luck), and a unit of Slaves breaks a unit of Cross Bow Warriors who in turn flies (manages to rally).

Then, the Skaven bells starts to “ring” again! 13 times.... and all goes quite! A shiver goes through the Dark Elf Spearmen Warriors, and the Supreme Sorceress looks at her warriors in despair as they one after one mutate into – Clanrats. With a scream she also slowly mutates, the rest of the army retreating from the battlefield in horror….
Skaven scouts report that the Dark Elf army currently are searching not only for a Supreme Sorceress to lead their army, but a Sorceress to assist here in facing the Skaven menace once again……

WHFB Daemons of Chaos vs High Elves 2500p

The Daemons of Chaos enters grassy fields of Ulthuan. To the west a Daemon Prince, a unit of Bloodletters. In centre two units of Daemonettes and a unit of Pink Horrors. The eastern flank consists of a unit of Daemonettes on Seekers, a unit of Bloodletters and a large unit of Bloodthirsters (on Juggernaut) with a Herald of Khorne.

The High Elves deploy one eagle on the fare side of each flank, followed by two units of Dragon Princes, two units of Spearmen and in centre, a small unit of archers, and a unit of Phoenix Guard and a large unit of White Lions. The Archmage joining the Phoenix Guard and a Mage joining the Archers.

Both army’s advances, the High Elves sending the Eagles forward to intercept. Magic has little effect the first couple of rounds, and since there is almost no shooting, the battle will be decided in hand to hand fighting.

On the east flank the Bloodthirsters kills of the Eagle. To the west flank the Eagle Manages to redirect a unit into centre in front of the Daemon battle line, slowing the advance of both the Bloodletters and Pink Horrors. The Dragon Princes charge them in the flank bugging the unit down.  The White Lions starts to grind down a large unit of Daemonettes, and a unit of High Elf Spearmen take the onslaught from the Seekers.  Slowly the High Elf units in centre grind down their foe, but the real threat to the Elven battle line has not yet reached battle.

To the fare left the Daemon Prince move around a building deep into the Elf deployment zone backed up by a unit of Bloodletters. Facing them a unit of High Elf Spearmen.  In the Magic Face the High Elf mage gives the unit a 5+ Ward Save, and the Archmage gives the same unit S 8. With Always strikes first S 8 Elves fighting in 4 Ranks kills the Daemon Prince before he could strike, and the unit regroups into centre to intercept the Pink Horrors.

To the east the Bloodthirsters cut down a unit of Dragon princes, and reforms to face the Elf flank. At the same time both the High Elf Spearmen to the east and the White Lions cut down the Seekers and Daemonettes, turning to face them. Again the Mage grants them 5+ Ward Save on the Spearmen, and the Archmage again give them S 8. During close combat the High Elves kills all of the centre part of the Chaos Daemon army. The fare west Bloodletters pursues the last Eagle and goes of the board, not able to engage in battle during the rest of the game. To the east the High Elf Noble issues a challenge that the Dark Lord welcomes. The Spearmen and White Lions cut down the Bloodthirsters.
However, the Noble gets cut down by the Herald, and the Dark Lord in return getting killed by combat resolution.

Ulthuan is safe once again, and The Daemons of Chaos suffers a solid defeat.
